When Is La Tomatina 2027?

La Tomatina 2027 takes place on Wednesday 25 August 2027, following the traditional date of the festival celebrated every year on the last Wednesday of August in Buñol, Spain.

The official tomato fight begins at 12:00 noon and lasts for exactly one hour, ending at 13:00. Before the fight, a traditional event called the “cucaña” takes place: participants try to climb a greased wooden pole to reach a leg of ham hanging from the top. Once someone succeeds, the trucks loaded with tomatoes enter the square and the famous battle officially begins.

Arriving in Buñol early in the morning is strongly recommended. Streets fill quickly, access points to the central square close in advance, and finding your group becomes difficult once thousands of participants gather in the town.

Where Is La Tomatina 2027 Held?

La Tomatina is held in Buñol, a small Spanish town located approximately 40 minutes inland from Valencia. With around 9,000 inhabitants, Buñol transforms each year into the centre of one of the most unique festivals in the world, hosting tens of thousands of international visitors on a single day.

The main fight takes place in Plaza del Pueblo and the narrow streets surrounding it. By the time the trucks arrive, the entire centre of the town becomes one huge, chaotic and colourful battlefield. Most visitors stay in Valencia and travel to Buñol on the morning of the event, since accommodation in Buñol itself is extremely limited.

If you prefer to avoid the stress of organising transport on one of the busiest travel days of the Spanish summer, our La Tomatina tour from Valencia includes round-trip transport, meeting points and full coordination.

What Happens At La Tomatina?

La Tomatina is the world’s biggest tomato fight, but the day involves much more than just one hour of throwing tomatoes. The festival has its own rhythm: arrival into Buñol from early morning, the cucaña at around 10:00, the first cannon at 12:00 announcing the start, one hour of complete chaos through the streets, the second cannon at 13:00 to end the fight, and the long process of cleaning up and leaving the town afterwards.

During the fight, more than 100 metric tons of overripe tomatoes are thrown by participants. The festival has strict rules: tomatoes must be squashed before being thrown, no other objects are allowed inside the fight area, and all participants must stop throwing immediately when the second cannon fires.

To prepare for the day, we recommend reading our La Tomatina survival guide, where we explain the rules, what to wear, what to bring and how to make the most of the festival.

How To Attend La Tomatina 2027

Since 2013, attending La Tomatina requires an official entry ticket. Attendance is strictly limited by the local authorities of Buñol, and tickets often sell out before the festival date. Travellers who plan to attend La Tomatina 2027 should secure their entry as early as possible.

Beyond the ticket, attending La Tomatina also involves transport from Valencia, navigating thousands of people on festival day, protecting valuables during the fight, finding showers and clean water afterwards, and getting safely back to the city once the event ends. These are the parts of the day that most first-time visitors underestimate.

Our La Tomatina tickets and packages include official entry, transport, access to our exclusive Tomato Club HQ with showers, food, drinks, entertainment, and full on-site support throughout the day.
